Travel Documents For Permanent Residents Abroad – My Chinese Adventure

Visiting China has always been on top of my priority travel destinations. I switched jobs recently and became close friends with a colleague of mine, Ni Quian, who was born in China and came to Toronto five years ago as a permanent resident. Last summer, when she told me that she was spending a month with her family in Luanping, and invited me to travel with her; I realized that this is the opportunity I have been looking for. So on July 17 we packed our bags and boarded a plane to Beijing.

To say that my stay in China was fascinating would be an understatement. I attended a wedding ceremony in one of the villages bear Luanping, of course the famous tea ceremony, then Ni took me to Xi’An – the ancient capital of China with its famous Buddhist temples. The last step of our trip around the country was the Great Wall of China incomparable to anything I have seen before.

Unfortunately, somewhere in between the multiple hotels and airports Ni lost her bag with all her documents and credit cards. We were supposed to go back to Toronto in a week, so the most pressing matter was to get a valid travel document to replace her lost permanent residence card.

Ni contacted the Canadian visa office in Beijing with a tale about her misfortune and was required to submit relevant documents, including proof for permanent residence in China. Now this was the problem – she had lost all her documents. Failing to report the loss to the police, she failed to provide a police document about the circumstances of the loss. The situation was very grave as Ni was risking her job in Toronto and her permanent residence status.

Luckily, this is a story with a happy ending. I called a few friends and they recommended a company which deals with providing Canadian travel documentation in cases where some important documents are missing or travel document application has been refused:

Now we are safely back in Toronto and I am considering putting a picture of myself on the Great Wall of China as my desktop background.

Exotic travel ideas needed?

I am single and want to take a cool adventure type trip, avoiding most of the tourist traps. I have checked out Couch Surfing and also did a Rideshare thing from Toronto to Texas and back. Can anyone suggest any other ways to travel cheap and meet the locals? I’d like to mountain bike and hike and sail, meet people and have adventures in exotic locales…and just need some ideas for a starting point. I have no time constraints. I just need to get away from the same old of my job city country etc

if you want to stay on the american continent you could
explore the mississippi delta, you could explore yucatan,
you could visit the remains of the inka, aztec and mayaculturesand so on.

if you consider going to africa i can recommend a travel
agency who does bus tours (small buses) for young people -
DRIFTERS in south africa. i’ve taken one of their tours some
years ago and it was just unbelievable, made friends for life
and want to go back there.

if you consider going to russia, why not explore kamtschatka,
the volcanoes, the wildlife and see the immense change from
communism to capitalism.

or travel to lake baikal in siberia, which holds more than 20 percent
of drinking water of this planet and is the deepest lake on it.
huge nature reserves all around it, prices very low, interesting
people, minority groups, various culturesetc. etc.the baikal
ito me is one of the wonders of nature.

i could go on forever…..
